Imagine top-notch comedy, two seasoned performers with unique “hooks,” and beneath it all, an implicit but not preachy message of healing and understanding.

That's what Comedy’s Oddcouple presents. And that's why audiences of Jews, Muslims, and Christians throughout North America and England find themselves enjoying marvelous evenings of sustained, non-political laughter.

Bob works with Arab, Muslim, and Palestinian comedians.  As he explains, “most Muslims are not Arabs. Most Arabs are Muslims.  All Palestinians are Arabs, and most, but not all, are Muslims.  Some Palestinians are Christians.  (Some Jews are Arabs, including Jerry Seinfeld’s mother’s family, of Syrian origin.)  If you can understand that (!), continue reading.

“Currently, I perform at universities, theatres, churches and synagogues and other venues with three close friends who are world-class comedians.  Azhar Usman is Muslim, but not Arab (top photo).  Nazareth is a Palestinian Christian (middle photo).  Ahmed Ahmed is Muslim and Arab (bottom photo).  I’m Jewish all the time.  Each show lasts approximate 100 minutes, ending with a Q and A session.  We hang out with the crowd till after everyone leaves.”

(Following a standing ovation from 2,700 people at New York’s prestigious Chautauqua Institution:)

Alper and Ahmed were terrific at Chautauqua. They charmed us with good, clean humor and managed to keep the audience laughing throughout the evening. "One Muslim. One Jew. One Stage" is a hit. Funny, bright, fast paced and certainly family friendly. These guys were great! A terrific evening of humor and insight.

Marty W. Merkley, Vice President & Director of Programming

We appreciate your being with us and the great job you and Nazareth did to launch us into our new identity. You also got rave reviews from the audience in the surveys….not surprising.

With care……………

The feedback from the weekend has been fantastic! Many people have told me it was one of Ohev's best events ever. The pairing (Ahmed and Alper) was a courageous undertaking and, quite honestly, a stroke of genius.

Dear Rabbi Alper and Azhar,

Thank you again so very much for the performance. Both of your sets were incredibly funny. As I'm sure both of you could see we had no idea the turnout would be so high, which just shows how important and valuable the relationship between the MSA and Hillel can be.  Once again thank you guys both so much.

Michael Mann, Hillel Staff , University of Delaware

I wanted to thank you for giving us the opportunity to host you and Ahmed at our center. We have received many positive comments about the show. Our IMAN group was invited to the UCLA Jewish group to discuss ways to work together. They also raved about the event, and this is a great opportunity that came out of the Saturday program.

Saman Namazikhah, Iranian Muslim Association, Los Angeles.

I would like to express my thanks on behalf of The Forum at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire for the wonderful performance you and Azhar Usman provided on October 16.  Our community seemed to know it was in for a treat, as the performance sold out (661 tickets) before noon on the day of the show. [This was our first sold out Forum event in that space in my seven years here.]  Many more people were turned away for what proved to be just what everyone needed:  An evening of light-hearted entertainment by two people who truly seemed to enjoy each other, regardless of what the media tells us!

Thanks, also, to both of you for handling the question-and-answer session with such ease and humor.  You interacted very well with the audience, and we appreciated your including this as part of your visit.

Last, but certainly not least, thank you for being such a joy to work with.  Every phone call and e-mail was answered almost within the hour (with complete answers to even my most annoying questions!) and for that I am grateful.  I never lost a moment’s sleep over this performance.

Thank you for your congeniality, professionalism, and reliability, not to even mention your humor! You met and exceeded our every expectation.  It was a pleasure hosting you on The Forum.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Brockpahler,  Arts/Events Coordinator, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire

The Los Angeles Times said it best:
“The touring stand-up duo are on the same side, and now there's a smile-shaped crack in the wall between their long-warring peoples.”
